2006 All Saints’ Day School
Celebrates a Culture of Caring for Dare to Care Day

The students, faculty, staff and parents of All Saints’ Day School in Carmel celebrated their Culture of Caring for Dare to Care Day. All Saints’ Day School students, faculty and parents are known for all they do in the spirit of caring and giving to the greater community. Today they acknowledged what they have achieved for the 2005 – 2006 school year.

The following are examples of All Saints’ Day School’s student outreach performed in individual grades:

Kindergarteners collected stuffed animals for Nancy’s Project supporting farm labor families.

First graders collected socks for people at Dorothy’s Place in Salinas

Second graders collected warm clothes for those in need, adopted a monkey in Vietnam, and collected money to buy milk for a child in Mozambique.

Third graders made many, many sandwiches for Dorothy’s Place.

Fourth graders collected money for UNICEF and gathered old towels and blankets for animals at the SPCA.

Fifth graders collected books for the Boys and Girls Clubs in Seaside and Salinas, and coordinated the school-wide read-a-thon to raise money for Katrina survivors.

Sixth graders sing each month at Carmel Valley Manor, and made Easter baskets for families in need.

Seventh graders prepared food and served at Dorothy’s Place.

Eighth graders are each performing 15 hours of community service, and ethics outreach projects.

• The Student Council sells lemonade at the annual Pet Blessing, and the funds are given to the SPCA.

In addition to work done with grade level classmates, the entire school works on several outreach projects throughout the year:

• Each week, the students bag beans for Nancy’s Project, and the school community collects funds to buy the beans. This project has taken place each year for the last 15 years.

• Each student does independent service projects. This year a number of girls had their hair cut and donated to Locks of Love, which makes wigs for cancer patients.

• All the students care for each other, close relationships are built through the school’s Big/Little Brother/Sister program.

• Time is taken to write thank you notes, and everyone works very hard to always remember to say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’.

• Each spring, the entire school collects coins for the Haiti Education program and the Haiti Goat Project.

All Saints Day School truly has a culture of caring, built from Kindergarten on up.

COLLECTING TOYS FOR AFGHANI CHILDREN

Seth Bryant Peaking Out from Collected Toys

We are pleased to report that the children in Ms. Christine’s Kindergarten at Robert Down Elementary School in Pacific Grove collected 56 soft toys to be sent to Military Personnel in Iraq and/or Afghanistan where they will be given as gifts to local children. In Afghanistan they will be distributed in a hospital and in Iraq they will be distributed by a Chaplin.

The picture was taken in our home after all of the toys had been collected. The child buried among the animals is Seth Bryant…this is the third year that he has participated in Dare to Care Day!!
